The American West: a place of adventure and romanization. What was once a place for a new life, it is now rotted either by nature or man. In Fredrick Douglas Turner’s renowned ‘Frontier Thesis’, he states the following:

“The frontier is the outer edge of the wave—the meeting point between savagery and civilization. Much has been written about the frontier from the point of view of border warfare and the chase, but as a field for the serious study of the economist and the historian it has been neglected.”

However, the frontier, also known as the American West, has evolved into a study of how politics, society, and the environment collide with one another. With a growing population opposed to a decreasing supply in natural resources, the once free spirit of the West is lost in the shadows of its former self.

This is the story on how, what, and who was lost in the process.
